Insurance Claim Processing – A Step-by-Step Guide

When a loss happens, you need clarity—not confusion.

Use this guide to understand how the insurance claim process works for home, auto, and liability policies in Oklahoma. Conway Insurance is here to help you avoid delays and mistakes—so you get paid faster.

What Is an Insurance Claim?

An insurance claim is your formal request for payment or benefits after a loss (like damage to your car, home, or a liability event). Filing a claim means providing evidence of the loss, so your insurer can review, approve, and pay according to your policy.

Our Process

  • Step 1: Safety First

    • Make sure everyone is safe. Call 911 for emergencies.
    • Prevent further damage: Board up broken windows, cover damaged roofs, or stop water leaks if safe to do so.
  • Step 2: Notify Your Carrier or Agent

Report the loss as soon as possible. For most policies, you can:

    • Call your insurance carrier directly (see Carriers page for claims numbers/links)
    • Contact Conway Insurance for guidance and claim routing

Auto claims: Provide accident details, police report (if required), and other driver’s info.

Home claims: Be ready with your policy number, property address, and a brief summary of the damage.

  • Step 3: Document Everything

The more details you provide, the smoother the claim.

    • Photos and Video: Take pictures of all damage before cleanup or repairs.
    • Receipts: Save all receipts for emergency repairs or replacement items.
    • Inventory: List damaged items (especially for home claims—use an inventory sheet if possible).
    • Police/Fire Reports: If law enforcement or the fire department responded, get a copy of their report.
  • Step 4: Cooperate With the Adjuster

    • Your insurer will assign an adjuster to evaluate the damage.
    • Respond promptly to calls and requests for info.
    • Be honest and complete in your answers.
    • For major losses, consider meeting the adjuster in person.
  • Step 5: Repairs & Resolution

    • Do not make permanent repairs until the adjuster has seen the damage and you have carrier approval.
    • Get written repair estimates if required.
    • Once approved, proceed with repairs—keep invoices and proof of payment for reimbursement.

Claim Types: What’s Different?

Auto Insurance Claims
  • Accident or theft? File a police report.
  • Provide other driver’s details and witness contacts.
  • Document vehicle condition and damage.

Homeowners/Renters Claims
  • Wind, hail, fire, or water? Take photos before you clean up.
  • Make only emergency repairs first; keep receipts.
  • List all damaged or destroyed property.

Liability Claims
  • If you’re sued or receive a letter of demand, notify us and your carrier immediately.
  • Do not admit fault without speaking to your insurer.
  • Provide any witness details or documentation.

Oklahoma-Specific Claim Tips

  • Storm claims: Know your wind/hail deductible—find it on your policy or ask us.
  • Tornado, wind, hail: Document roof, siding, window, and fence damage before cleanup.
  • Time limits: Most Oklahoma policies require claims to be filed promptly—don’t wait.
